Social is taking a turn for messages that are faster than ever. What can micro-social teach you about engaging your employees for the long run?
Scroll DownRemember Facebook? If you talk to today’s youngest social users about the media they use every day, it’s unlikely that they’ll mention this dinosaur. Instead, they’re likely to mention Vine, home of the six-second video, or Snapchat, an instant and ephemeral form of ultra-speedy communication.
With the race for social increasingly going to the super speedy, it’s a good time to reflect on how this new social is a harbinger of your own worker’s viewpoints, no matter what age they are. Because even though not everyone in the office is a social user, they’re all feeling the increasing time-crunch of their work and home lives. Face it, most attention spans in the office are just about as short as a Vine video.
Here are some tips to pick up the pace of your organization’s engagement:
Show me quick. No one has time to wait for you to get to the point. If you want your employees to rally around a new objective, keep it short and sweet, and let them know what’s in it for them – sooner rather than later.
Reward me instantly. Or faster. Frequent gamers are accustomed to reaching new levels and achieving rewards once a goal is attained. Is your own employee recognition as lightning swift?
Do this, get that. Press a button, send a message. Reach a goal, get a reward. Don’t wait around for long-term payoffs that might or might not happen. Smaller, more frequent rewards are the way to go.
Fun or forgotten. Seriously, you need to show employees the fun in reaching their goal, and they need to feel that the journey will be as enjoyable as the destination. If there’s no fun in your engagement plan, it’s going nowhere, fast.
