Case Study: Food
This unique event served as both a learning opportunity for every participant and as a community service project that touched thousands of lives.
Results
- Managers networked with 1,700 other leaders.
- The workshops inspired “best practices” within the company.
- Participants learned leadership skills by making a difference to their teams, customers, and communities.
At its bi-annual managers’ event, a major fast-food chain wanted to introduce a leadership model that touched on critical principles demonstrated by successful managers.
Issues
- Design a mandatory and memorable learning event for 18,000 managers in one location at one time.
- Energize and inspire leaders to emerge and ultimately take action while being accountable.
- Balance the dichotomy of en masse networking and interaction while providing individual hands-on experience.
- Surpass prior successful learning events with a creative solution that would be remembered for years to come.
Solution
BI created a 90-minute workshop with approximately 1,875 participants at each session. Eight of these sessions were held over the course of two days. The participants created welcome packages for American and Canadian family crisis centers. The assembly-line styled activity reinforced these key leadership strategies.
- Overview instructions and assign roles and responsibilities.
- Create look and design of the welcome packages.
- Strategize what to include in the welcome packages.
- Plan for a team photo.
- Build as many welcome packages as possible within the time limit.
- Earn recognition from a “judge” for “completion certification.”
