401K

BIW provides a 401(k) retirement plan to assist Associates in saving for retirement. Anyone working 1,000+ hours in a 12 month period is eligible to participate immediately. There are pre-tax, after-tax or Roth contribution options. BIW matches $0.50 per $1.00 (or 50%) up to the first 6% you contribute. The maximum match from BIW is $7,500 per year. The matching contributions are subject to a five year vesting schedule. The plan offers changing investment fund options, as well as a self-directed option that provides access to funds outside the BIW plan.

 

Profit Sharing

For Associates not on individual bonus plans, BIW shares in its success in the form of a discretionary bonus. Profit Sharing is based on 3 factors: length of employment with BIW, eligible salary, and BIW’s success.

Health Insurance

All regular, full & part-time Associates working a minimum of 30 hours per week are eligible for health benefits, effective the first of the month following their date of hire. 

BIW offers a High Deductible/Health Savings Account Plan (HSA) administered by UnitedHealthcare. The monthly costs are as follows:

  • Single - $153
  • Single +1 - $489
  • Family - $702

By electing the High Deductible plan, you are eligible to contribute to an HSA account on a pre-tax basis. *If you become entitled to Medicare benefits, you cannot contribute to an HSA.

BIW also offers a PPO copay plan administered by Surest (UHC). The monthly costs are as follows:

  • Single - $123
  • Single +1 - $415
  • Family - $585

Prescription Coverage

Drugs on the HSA plan are subject to co-payments or deductible as follows:

Preventive Drugs:

Generic: $8.00 co-pay. No co-pay for diabetic supplies. 

Brand-Preferred (formulary): $45.00 co-pay.

Mail Order: 3 month supply for 2 times the monthly co-pay amount

*Non-preventive prescriptions on the HSA plan are subject to deductible and coinsurance

Drugs on the Surest PPO plan are subject to co-payments as follows:

Retail:

Generic: $10.00 co-pay. No co-pay for diabetic supplies. 

Brand-Preferred (formulary): $90.00 co-pay.

Non-Preferred brand: $120.00 co-pay

Mail Order (3 month upply)

Generic: $25.00 co-pay. No co-pay for diabetic supplies. 

Brand-Preferred (formulary): $225.00 co-pay.

Non-Preferred brand: $300.00 co-pay

Dental Insurance

BIW offers a Low and a High dental plan through HealthPartners. The Low plan covers preventive services at 100% and basic services (such as fillings) at 80% after a $50 deductible. The High plan covers preventive services at 100% and basic services at 50% after a $25 deductible. In addition it covers major restorative services (such as crowns) at 50% after a $25 deductible. Orthodontic coverage is also available under the High Plan.The monthly costs are as follows:

Vision Insurance

BIW offers a vision plan through EyeMed. The plan provides a discount on lenses & contacts every 12 months, frames every 24 months and Lasik procedures. The monthly cost is as follows:

Single                     $6.92

Single + 1               $13.15

Family                    $19.31

Pet Insurance

Pet Insurance provides coverage for veterinary expenses related to accidents and illnesses. Policies are available for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and other exotic pets. This is a voluntary benefit and cost is determined on factors such as type of animal, breed, age, and zip code.

Life Insurance

BIW provides basic life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance at one times your base salary. You may elect to purchase additional life insurance up to five times your salary (up to a max of $750K), as well as coverage for your spouse/partner, and/or children.

Short Term Disability

Short term disability coverage protects you from an illness or an injury that would cause an absense of up to eight weeks. Benefits begin after a waiting period of 7 days (personal days can be used to supplement pay while waiting) and provide 60% of your weekly income, up to a maximum of $2,500/week. This is an employer paid benefit. 

Flexible Spending Accounts

A Limited Use Flex (an account only used with an HSA for dental and vision expenses), Standard Flex and a Dependent Care account are available.

Supplemental Medical Insurance

Critical Illness, Accident Insurance and Hospital Indemnity

These benefits provide you additional income in the event of a serious accident, critical illness diagnosis, or in-patient hospitalization. These dollars can be used as you see fit to cover your deductible or other non-medical expense.

Costs for Critical Illness are dependent upon age.

Accident Insurance monthly costs are as follows:

  • EE: $6.01
  • EE + Spouse: $12.03
  • EE + Child(ren): $12.93
  • Family: $18.95

Hospital Indemnity costs are as follows:

  • EE: $13.65
  • EE + Spouse: $27.96
  • EE + Child(ren): $22.46
  • Family: $36.77

Employee Assistance Program

BIW’s Employee Assistance Program is provided by UnitedHealthcare. It offers referral services for simple questions to complex issues with topics ranging from health, family, money, and work to personal issues. This service is available to you and anyone that is important in your life and is completely confidential.   

 

AwardPoints

AwardPoints earned can be redeemed for merchandise, travel, event tickets and more.

Associate Events

Throughout the year, BIW hosts events for its Associates. Chili cook-offs, Oktoberfest celebrations, Jazz Fests and Take Your Dog to Work Day are just a few examples of recent events. 

Bravo

Bravo is BIW’s social recognition and incentive system and is used by all Associates to recognize each other for any number of behaviors that support our work for customers and exemplify our values. Recognition may include AwardPoints or sweepstakes entries. 

Dress Code

Associates may wear jeans to work every day. We do, however, dress in business or business casual attire when interviewing, meeting with suppliers/vendors or hosting or attending customer meetings both outside and inside of BIW.  

Referral Program

When you refer a qualified candidate to BIW and they are hired, you receive $500 in AwardPoints.  

Recognition PURL™

Engages co-workers, family and friends to share comments, photos and videos to personalize the celebration of your milestone anniversary with BIW.

Gyms, Fitness & Health

Vitality
BIW's partnership with Vitality allows associates to earn Award Points for completing various well-being initiatives.

Gym Discounts
BIW partners with LifeTime to provide $100 off club fees if you work out 8 times/month.

Healthy Savings
Associates receive a Healthy Savings discount card to save on produce at participating grocery stores.

Ergonomics
BIW offers treadmill desk conference rooms, on-site Roman chairs, and sit-to-stand desks.

Group Legal Insurance

Group Legal provides legal services from experienced attorneys for $19.50 a month.  Legal advice and services are offered for a wide range of personal legal matters including: court appearances, document review and preparation, wills, family law, and real estate matters. This is a voluntary benefit.  

Holidays

BIW celebrates ten paid holidays each year. Our 2024 holidays are listed below:

New Year’s Day – Monday, January 1

MLK Day – Monday, January 15

Memorial Day – Monday, May 27

Independence Day – Thursday, July 4

Labor Day – Monday, September 2

Thanksgiving holidays – Thursday, November 24; Friday, November 25

Winter holidays – Tuesday, December 24; Wednesday, December 25

One floating holiday – of your choice (if hired after July 1, holiday is awarded the next January)

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

FMLA provides for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. Associates are eligible after 12 months of employment with BIW. FMLA leaves are administered by Voya.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

BIW supplies Associates paid time off (PTO) to use at their own discretion for family emergencies, vacation time, sick time for themselves or family members, or other personal business. PTO is based on longevity and hours worked, according to the following schedule:

Regular Full-Time Associates

  • 120 hours (15 days) at hire
  • 160 hours (20 days) after 1 year
  • 176 hours (22 days) after 5 years
  • 192 hours (24 days) after 10 years
  • 208 hours (26 days) after 15 years
  • 224 hours (28 days) after 20 years
  • 240 hours (30 days) after 25 years
  • Up to 40 hours (5 days) can be rolled over to the next year. The maximum amount of days one can have is 5 days above your anniversary amount. 


Regular Part-Time and Seasonal Associates

  • PTO is prorated based upon hours worked during the year and length of employment. 

Legal, LTD and Identity Theft should be in the top section of the benefits page, not the second section.

Flexible Work Arrangements

Fixed Flexible Hours:  Fixed hours per day – for example, 8:00am – 4:30pm, 8:30am – 5:00pm, or 7:30am – 4:00pm

Work from home:  Option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays if your position and schedule permits you to be away from the office.

Work from anywhere: Option to work from any location up to 4 weeks per calendar year if your position and the work you do permits it.

Summer of Love

From Memorial Day through Labor Day BIW celebrates the Summer of Love.  During these months there is a relaxed dress code, along with other fun activities like barbecues, afternoon parties with live music, and other surprise events. Associates are also given additional time off to enjoy the summer months. 

Treadmill and Sit-or-Stand Desks

BIW provides a number of treadmill desks on campus and in conference rooms. These are available for all associates to use for walking meetings or individually. Associates working at our MN locations are also provided with a powered stand-or-sit desk. 

University of St. Thomas Scholarships

Children of BIW Associates are eligible for the Guy Schoenecker Scholarship which covers 50% of the published tuition. The scholarship is for 4 yrs or 132 credits (whichever comes first).

Parental Leave

BIW will provide up to 6 weeks of paid parental leave for parents immediately following the arrival of a new infant or for adoptive parents with new children up to age 18. This benefit runs adjacent with short-term disability, if applicable. Associates must be employed for 6 months to be eligible.

Long Term Disability

Long term disability coverage protects you from an illness or an injury that would cause an absence of 8 weeks or greater. Benefits begin on the 60th day and provide 60% of monthly wages, up to $15,000/month. This is an employer paid benefit.

Identity Theft Coverage

ID Theft coverage services are provided by ID Watchdog. Services are provided for a wide range of protections such as Tri-Bureau Credit monitoring, SSN monitoring, financial account monitoring as well as restoration in case of an identity theft event. The monthly costs are as follows:
